Running a home based intensive behavioral intervention program can be an overwhelming task. Many families struggle with staffing concerns, such as ensuring that their staff has a knowledge base of behavioral principles prior to starting work with their child and ensuring that their staff has opportunities for on-going behavioral training. This struggle is compounded by high turn-over rates among their staff.
Families of Children’s Hospital’s Intensive Behavioral Intervention Program will now have an opportunity for their staff to receive the training that is needed for ensuring the highest quality of care for their children. A series of trainings will meet the needs of the families by providing on-going and more intensive training of the staff who work with their children, to ensure they have the most up to date information on behavioral principles and how to effectively implement these procedures with children with autism spectrum disorders.
These programs will focus on basic principles of behavioral interventions. We will be discussing the history of these techniques and how the processes can be successfully implemented with children with autism. We will also discuss principles of applied behavior analysis to decrease negative behaviors while improving positive behaviors.
