MCKENZIE LABORATORY My research focuses on the adoption of parent safety practices (such as the use of child safety seats, smoke alarms, poison storage devices and carbon monoxide detectors) to reduce child injuries. My current projects include obese children and child safety seat use; maternal depressive symptoms and parent safety practices; Ohio voters attitudes and practices related to ATV use; developing aN innovative educational tool to increase booster seat use among parents of children 4-8 years of age; parent safety practices and impulsivity; and, evaluation of a brief child safety intervention in an emergency department.

Research Interests My research interests in the field of public health broadly include social and behavioral sciences and child injury prevention and control. To date, my research has focused on the health of children and the prevention of injury, with specific attention to injuries that occur in and around the home as well as the delivery of injury prevention interventions in the pediatric emergency department and the community. I have an interest in the relationship of child obesity and child safety seats, as well as in various consumer product-related injuries, sports and activity-related injuries.
