Brief Description of Family Resource Center:

The family resource center is staffed Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday / Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. When it is not staffed, please contact security and they will assist families with access to the family resource center.

The entrance to the family resource center is easy to find with the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation logo etched in the main window. The location, adjacent to the main hospital cafeteria and close to the gift shop and chapel, allows families to quickly access all major public areas of the building.

The family resource center was designed by families and professionals to support patients and families during their time at Nationwide Children's Hospital (both inpatient and outpatient). The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation made a generous $1.5 million gift and we have named the facility in their honor. The space was designed to replicate the colors and overall atmosphere of Nationwide Arena, home to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Services Available:
  • Educational programs including CPR, Infant Massage, and hands-on skills training tailored to your child’s health care needs, including instructions for Enteral Tube Care and Central Venous Catheter Care.

  • Library/Resource Center including computers, internet, wireless access and online resources. Free printer, copier, fax machine and telephones

  • Lounge including television, movies, books, newspapers, magazines, music and a children's play area

  • Kitchen with pop machine, refridgerator, microwave and sitting area.

  • Laundry Room

  • Showers

  • Breastfeeding Room with breast pump

  • Fitness Area with a stationary bike, treadmill, free weights, etc.

  • Lockers

Haircuts
Great Clips is now providing free haircuts for family members of inpatients in the Family Resource Center! Two stylists will be available on the first and third Wednesday of every month from 1 - 5 p.m. No Appointments Necessary - availability offered on a first come-first served basis.

Massage Therapy
Licensed Massage Therapists are available for free, 15-minute chair massages every Tuesday and Thursday from 12 - 4 p.m. Sign up in the Family Resource Center.

Yoga Sessions
Every 1st and 3rd Friday from 1 - 2 p.m., Dr. Linda Chun, certified yoga instructor, offers FREE yoga sessions in the Family Resource Center to family and friends of patients at Nationwide Children's. Yoga provides an opportunity to nurture the body and spirit by helping participants relax and recharge while becoming more centered and grounded. Families can register in the Family Resource Center or call (614) 722-2252.

Scrapbooking
Scrapbooking Studio is scheduled every Wednesday from 6 - 8 p.m. Come relax in a fun, creative environment. Supplies will be provided. All families are welcome.

Movie Nights
On Thursdays from 6 - 8 p.m., a family movie will be shown and popcorn provided for families of patients. Enjoy the movie in the Family Resource Center lounge on our big screen television.

Afternoon Arcade
Every Thursday, 3 - 6 p.m., the Family Resource Center will host Afternoon Arcade. Board games, hockey foosball table, cards, the new Nintendo Wii and much more are available for a time of fun and friendly competition.

Pizza & Speaker/ Lunch & Learn
An information series for parents of patients coordinated by staff of the Family Resource Center and Nationwide Children's Hospital. Past topics include hand hygiene, music therapy, family fitness, Enteral Nutrition, Medical Info on the web and more. Free lunch is provided and registration is limited.
