Grant Awarded for Real Time Disease Detection

The Section of Pharmacology and Toxicology, in conjunction with the Central Ohio Poison Center, was awarded an $810,000 grant for Real Time Disease Detection (RTDD) from the Ohio Department of Health, at the direction of the Centers for Disease Control. The RTDD grant included funds for equipment, training and advanced informatics to support the continuous monitoring of Ohio’s poison control call activity for unusual patterns suggesting terrorism or other public health concerns. The technology benefits Ohio by connecting Nationwide Children’s Hospital with county and state public health officials.
