Clinical, Teaching & Research Interests*:

Hugh D. Allen, MD, DsC (hon), is Vice Chair for Academic Affairs at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and a Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He is also the Director of Student and Resident elective activities. Dr. Allen was Physician-in-Chief of Nationwide Children’s Hospital where he also served as chief of the Section of Pediatric Cardiology from 1988 to 2001 and was executive vice chair for clinical affairs of the Department of Pediatrics. Formerly, he was Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Arizona. He completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and served in the U.S. Army as a Major in the Medical Corps. His major research initially was in the development of the field of echocardiography. He was one of the early workers in the field of interventional catheterization. He is now studying the effects of muscular dystrophy on the heart. He was Vice President for Councils and on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the National American Heart Association, on the Sub-board of Pediatric Cardiology and the Executive Committee of the AAP. Dr. Allen frequently reviews for the National Institutes of Health. He is author or co-author of more than 250 papers, chapters and books and is again lead editor of Moss and Adam’s Heart Disease in Children and Adolescents, including the Fetus and Young Adult, 7th Edition.
