The fetal heart program, part of the Congenital Heart Collaborative, is Ohio’s first single-site fetal cardiac intervention program, specializing in detection and treatment of fetal cardiac defects in infants still in the womb.
One of only a handful of such programs in the country, the fetal heart program brings together experts in maternal fetal medicine, pediatric and interventional cardiology, pediatric cardiac and obstetrical anesthesia, pediatric cardiac surgery, neonatology and other specialties to ensure seamless care for mothers and their babies with fetal heart defects, both before, during and after birth.
Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is a rare but serious congenital heart defect that requires a series of surgeries after a baby is born and the potential for lifelong complications. Our experts are trained in fetal cardiac intervention and can often prevent or lessen the severity of this and other defects in-utero, using advanced fetal cardiac procedures. This may lead to fewer complications at birth and potentially better outcomes for babies in both the short- and long-term.
