Lis is the Chief Human Resources Officer at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, a position she has held since 2015. Nationwide Children’s is the largest pediatric hospital in the United States and treats children from around the world as an elite, destination, pediatric teaching hospital and research institution. Nationwide Children’s is an organization that has defined a new model of delivering state-of-the-art care and generating new cures in an environment of unsurpassed quality. Nationwide Children’s 130-year mission is to provide every child with the finest medical care regardless of their families’ ability to pay. Her role is overall management of human resources, learning and organizational development, education and diversity functions — all accomplished by creating a team that works as a valued partner to the organization. Her job is to find the best people to make an impact in pediatric health care not only in the halls, but also outside the walls in the community to deliver the best outcomes for Nationwide Children’s patients and families.
Being a senior leader means protecting the brand as an integral part of a multi-factored business model in addition to advising, consulting and serving as a sounding-board. It is important to remember that her stakes are as high as every other employee. When she is away from work, she enjoys time with her two children and walking her Weimaraner, Bella. She also enjoys rowing, which she started doing in high school, where she founded Washington-Lee High School’s Girls Rowing Team. It is fantastic exercise and a great team sport where you can not deviate. A cohesive team makes all the difference.
She has more than 25 years’ experience as a Human Resources leader in a variety of fields, including consulting with the US Army, management consulting, financial services and health care. Prior to her position at Nationwide Children’s, she was the Senior Vice President, Human Resources & Learning for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the Senior Vice President, Human Resources & Learning at Munich Reinsurance (American Modern Insurance Group), Vice President of Human Resource Development & Learning at Mercy Health in Cincinnati, Ohio, a Research Associate at the National Institutes of Health, and as a consultant for the Hay Group, Booz-Allen, and Litton Industries.
A graduate of Smith College in Massachusetts, she received her MS and PhD degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, VA in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. She serves as an adjunct faculty member of Xavier University and Ohio University and is a member of a number of professional organizations.
She has a broad experience base within a number of different industries and proven track record of improving organizational effectiveness and employee experience/engagement.
