Diabetes Support Groups

Nationwide Children's Hospital offers three diffierent support groups to meet the needs of our patients and their families.  Support groups are available for teens, pre-teens and parents and meet regularly.

Please see below for our list of support groups and upcoming meetings.


Pre-Teen Type 1 Diabetes Support Group

Who: Pre-teens in grades 6-8 (ages 10-13)

Time: 6:00 - 7:30 PM

When/Where: Monthly classes will re-convene in the Fall

RSVP: To RSVP, please send an email to endoRSVP@NationwideChildrens.org at least one week prior to the event.

Additional Information:

  • Social worker will be present to facilitate discussions.

  • Light refreshments will be provided.

  • Coffee will be served to parents who would like to stay to meet others with children living with diabetes.

  • Please note: There will not be medical staf present for these meetings, so please be prepared and have your diabetes supplies with you.

Teen Type 1 Diabetes Support Group

Who: Teens in grades 9-12

Time: 6:00 - 7:30 PM

When/Where: Quarterly classes will re-convene in the Fall

Type 1 Diabetes Parent Support Group

Workshop: Saturday, June 7 and Saturday, August 9

Time: 9:30 - 11:30 AM

Where: Main Campus - ED-054

Details: This workshop has been designed to help bring awareness to the potential health risks associated with the stress that comes with being a parent or caregiver of a child with diabetes. The objective of this workshop is to create awareness of the negative impact that stress not only has on your immune system, but your child’s blood sugar as well. Through the use of therapeutic yoga, we will explore and identify the effects of stress, deepen body awareness, and ultimately create a better you.

This comprehensive workshop will be followed by a 7-week therapeutic yoga series designed specifically to meet the needs of parents and caregivers of children with diabetes. Each class will be a beginner level class structured around reducing stress, strengthening the immune system, and building body awareness.
