Vocalizations in Infants with Cleft Palate

Purpose of study:

The purpose of this study is to describe the early vocal behaviors of infants with cleft palate, before and after palate repair surgery, and to identify predictors of speech-language skills at 2 years of age.

Who can participate:

Infants with nonsyndromic cleft palate, ages 8-12 months, who have not yet undergone palate repair surgery.

What will happen during the study:

Parents will be asked to collect recordings of their babies sounds (vocalizations) and babbling before and after palate repair surgery and to have their baby complete a developmental screening, in addition to their regular Cleft Palate Team care.
