Get Inspired to Support CFSH

The vital work of the Center for Family Safety and Healing would not be possible without the support of this strong and caring community. Your gifts enable us to provide a safe place for children and families experiencing violence. Through our coordinated approach, we provide the support to strengthen families and the expertise to heal the trauma of abuse.

Nationwide Childrens counts on the generosity of individuals to help us provide the margin of excellence that our patients and families deserve.

We can't do it without you.

  • 60% of the funding for the Center comes from individual and community donors.
  • Government funding does not provide enough to cover costs; for instance, a medical assessment costs $1,400 but the state only provides $500.

We are the best in the nation.

  • CFSH is the first facility in the country to offer assessment, treatment, prevention, research and advocacy all under one roof.
  • Our Center combines the resources of our partner organizations bringing together the Columbus Special Victims Unit, the Franklin County Prosecutor, Nationwide Children's Hospital, the Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence, CHOICES and Franklin County Children Services.
  • Before the Center opened its doors, a child would have to travel to several different offices and tell their story no less than five times; now, they tell their story just once to a team who assemble at the Center.
  • The Center has only one of two database systems in the country that monitors the progress of a case throughout all the involved agencies.

We can't underestimate the problem.

  • Four children die each day from abuse and neglect in the US.
  • In Ohio, a child is abused or neglected every ten minutes.
  • One out of every five children will be sexually assaulted before they reach the age of 18.
  • Child abuse is 15 times more likely to occur in families where domestic violence exists.
  • 45% of victims we treat are under the age of 7 year.
  • 60% of child abuse cases show a prior history of domestic violence.
  • 65% of parents with children in therapy report their own molestation as a child.

We are working to meet the demand.

  • Over 1,400 children are assessed or treated by the Child Assessment Center each year.
  • The Center serves patients from 35 counties across Central Ohio.
  • Home visitation programs served over 600 families through the Help Me Grow and Nurse Family Partnership.
  • Family support programs provided therapy and support for more than 580 children and their non-offending family members in 2008.

We can't say it better than they our children and families.
