The Digital Imaging Team is a multidisciplinary team consisting of healthcare and informatics professionals working together to provide high quality digital images to our customers.
Shital Abhange
Shital Abhange is an Imaging Technician on the Biomedical Imaging Team. Shital has a Master's Degree in Biomedical Imaging field from Wright State University. She has experience in areas of MATLAB programming, Graphical User Interface (GUI) and medical image processing along with two years research experience. Shital's responsibilities will include converting pathology tissue glass slides to a digital format using specialized high-resolution imaging robots for multi-institutional projects to create digital collections. Shital previously worked at Holy Family Hospital, India for 1 year as a Biomedical Engineer.
Tom Barr
Tom Barr is the Imaging Manager of the Biomedical Imaging Team. Tom has over 15 years experience on clinical, technical, and research projects in healthcare related to digital pathology, electronic medical record (EMR), computerized physician order entry (CPOE), laboratory information systems (LIS), and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS). Tom has a bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, an associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology, and is EpicCare Ambulatory certified. Tom's current role is to manage all activities of the imaging team, supervise grants associated with imaging, and ensure the overall success of the team.
Bill Beyer
Bill Beyer is a Senior Developer with over 25 years of Information Technology experience, including 20 years with Bell Laboratories. A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering has provided a strong analytical foundation that has led to many elegant yet highly practical solutions. Bill's past experience includes systems application development, technical management, project management, database architecture, network administration, and high-level customer support. Bill's current focus is on digital image analysis, architecting and maintaining the imaging hardware infrastructure, creating tools and applications to support imaging operations, and developing policies and procedures.
Dave Billiter
Dave Billiter is the Director of the Research Informatics Core. Dave has over 9 years of experience related to information technology (IT). Dave's experience in IT includes technical recruiting, business development and analysis, and project management. Dave has a bachelor's degree in Management and a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI). Dave's current role is to direct all activities of the core, supervise grants associated with research informatics, recruitment of additional informatics staff and ensure the overall success of the core.
Alemayehu Girma Haile
Alemayehu Girma Haile "Alex” is an Imaging Technician on the Biomedical Imaging Team. Alemayehu holds degree in doctor of medicine from Jimma University in 2005. Alemayehu has worked as a field coordinator and clinician for an international Humanitarian Medical organization (Medicine San Frontiers) for about a year. Additionally, Alemayehu worked as a medical school curriculum revising and designing committee for more than two years for the St. Paul’s Millennium Medical School in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia .
Carmen Helsel
Carmen Helsel is a Biomedical Imaging Coordinator and holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biomedical Communications from The Ohio State University. Carmen is responsible for coordinating digital pathology reviews, conducted by pathologists at various institutions and coordinating efforts among the biomedical imaging team to maintain a strong working relationship with staff and review pathologists. Previously, Carmen worked in the Pathology department at The Ohio State University Medical Center and in the Multimedia department for a large telecommunications company.
Aaron Hobensack
Aaron Hobensack is a Biomedical Imaging Coordinator on the Biomedical Imaging Team. Aaron has a Bachelor's Degree in Allied Medical Professions including coursework in Computer Information Systems and Health Information Management Systems. Aaron's is a member of the Biospecimen Core Resource and works on the Cancer Genome Atlas Project. He is responsible for coordinating the review of digital images by pathologists around the country for the purpose of tissue quality control. Aaron previously worked for the Columbus Blue Jackets as a Certified Athletic Trainer, with responsibilities including the virtualization and archiving of all team medical records.
Alphonse Tshiwala
Alphonse Tshiwala is an Imaging Technician on the Biomedical Imaging Team. Alphonse has an undergraduate degree in Behavioral Sciences from The Ohio State University. Alphonse has 6 years of experience in the health care setting. Alphonse previously worked in a Surgical Pathology department in Fairfax, Virginia where he assisted pathologists on procedures such as fine needle aspirations, slide distribution/retrieval, and autopsies.
Stephanie Weaver
Stephanie Weaver is a Biomedical Imaging Coordinator on the Biomedical Imaging Team has been a member of the Biopathology Center since 2001. Stephanie's primary role on the Biomedical Imaging Team is to coordinate the materials needed for pediatric and gynecologic reviews. Stephanie is also responsible for other duties within the Biopathology Center including invoicing, data entry, document management and customer service.
