Tom Barr
Imaging Manager, Biomedical Imaging Team

Tom Barr has over 20 years of experience on clinical, technical, and research projects in healthcare related to digital pathology, electronic medical record (EMR), computerized physician order entry (CPOE), laboratory information systems (LIS), and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS). Tom has a bachelor's degree in computer information systems, an associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology, and is EpicCare Ambulatory certified. Tom's current role is to manage all activities of the imaging team, supervise grants associated with imaging, and ensure the overall success of the team.
 

Nilsa Del Carmen Ramirez-Milan, MD

Dr. Nilsa Ramirez is an anatomic pathologist with subspecialty training in gynecologic and obstetrical pathology, as well as an associate professor of pathology at The Ohio State University. The Biopathology Center houses the biobanking efforts of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), the Children’s Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS), the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP), and the Strategic Partnering to Evaluate Cancer Signatures (SPECS) program in sarcomas. Dr. Ramirez is the principal investigator of the COG Tissue Bank, the GOG Tissue Bank, and the pediatric division of the Cooperative Human Tissue Network (CHTN). She is co-investigator and lead pathologist of the Biospecimen Core Resource of The Cancer Genome Atlas project, also housed at the Biopathology Center. She is knowledgeable and experienced in the histopathologic diagnosis of tumors, and in the technology of preserving tissues for biologic research.
 

Kathleen Nicol, MD

Dr. Kathleen Nicol, also a clinical associate professor of pathology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, is board certified in clinical and anatomic pathology and pediatric pathology and serves as a staff pathologist in the section of clinical and anatomic pathology. Her clinical interests are pediatric fine needle aspiration biopsy/cytology, and pediatric transfusion medicine, in addition to surgical pathology and laboratory medicine, including quality control and digital imaging.
 

Bill Beyer
Senior Developer, Biomedical Imaging Team

Bill Beyer has over 25 years of information technology experience, including 20 years with Bell Laboratories. A master's degree in electrical engineering has provided a strong analytical foundation that has led to many elegant yet highly practical solutions. Bill's past experience includes systems application development, technical management, project management, database architecture, network administration, and high-level customer support. Bill's current focus is on digital image analysis, architecting and maintaining the imaging hardware infrastructure, creating tools and applications to support imaging operations, and developing policies and procedures.
 

Stephanie Weaver
Biomedical Imaging Coordinator, Biopathology Center

Stephanie Weaver has been a member of the Biopathology Center since 2001. Stephanie's primary role on the Biomedical Imaging Team is to coordinate the materials needed for pediatric and gynecologic reviews. Stephanie is also responsible for other duties within the Biopathology Center including invoicing, data entry, document management and customer service.
 

Carmen Helsel
Biomedical Imaging Coordinator, Biomedical Imaging Team

Carmen Helsel holds a bachelor’s of science degree in biomedical communications from The Ohio State University and is currently working to complete her master’s in business administration. Carmen is responsible for coordinating digital pathology reviews that are conducted by pathologists at various institutions, to ensure tissue quality control for The Cancer Genome Atlas project. Carmen also coordinates efforts among the Biomedical Imaging Team to maintain a strong working relationship with the Biospecimen Core Resource staff and all review pathologists. Previously, Carmen worked in the pathology department at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and in the multimedia department for a large telecommunications company.

James Gallaher
Biomedical Imaging Coordinator, Biomedical Imaging Team

James Gallaher has a bachelor’s degree in biological engineering with a minor in biomedical engineering from The Ohio State University. He is responsible for coordinating digital pathology reviews for The Cancer Genome Atlas project. James previously worked at a small medical devices company as an engineering intern.

 

Tracy Hall
Biomedical Imaging Coordinator, Biomedical Imaging Team

Tracy Hall's duties include the coordination of digital pathology reviews for The Cancer Genome Atlas project. She holds a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Ohio Wesleyan University. Previously, Tracy worked as a biology textbook editor and author for a major educational publisher. She has also served as a research and veterinary intern for several major zoological institutions including the New England Aquarium and the Cincinnati Zoo.

Shital Hobensack
Biomedical Imaging Research Associate, Biomedical Imaging Team

Shital Abhange has over a year of experience as a biomedical imaging technician. Shital has a master's degree in biomedical engineering with a concentration in imaging from Wright State University. She has experience in the areas of MATLAB programming, graphical user interfaces (GUI) and medical image processing along with two years research experience. Shital's responsibilities include working with multiple medical imaging modalities, providing technical guidance and training, and conducting independent research. Shital previously worked at Holy Family Hospital in India for one year as a biomedical engineer.

Bryce Reall
Imaging Technician, Biomedical Imaging Team

Bryce Reall is currently pursuing a CIS degree. He has a background in programming in several languages and over a decade of experience with computer hardware.
 

 

David Garwood
Imaging Technician, Biomedical Imaging Team

David Garwood has a bachelor’s degree in communication arts from Malone University. His responsibilities include the conversion of pathological slides using digital microscopy imaging robots. David previously worked in local broadcast news at ABC 6 and FOX 28.
