When Bennett Beaver was 2 months old, his pediatrician found a heart murmur during a routine checkup and referred him to Nationwide Children's Hospital. Little did Bennett’s family know that his heart condition was anything but routine. Dr. Philip T. Thrush, MD, a pediatric cardiologist in The Heart Center, discovered that Bennett was born with complex congenital heart disease including ventricular septal defect (VSD), dextrocardia and congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries. Dr. Toshiharu Shinoka, MD, PhD, a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon at Nationwide Children’s, performed a rare double switch operation and saved Bennett’s heart.
Join Bennett and his family in the days leading up to surgery, gain behind the scenes access in the operating room, and be part of the family’s journey on the road to recovery.
