Kimberly Walters

I received my PhD in Biostatistics from The Ohio State University (OSU) and have a BS in Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  I have experience with longitudinal methodology and intervention research from my work on pediatric mood disorders at the OSU Medical Center.  My research interests include methods development for public health epidemiology, prevention, and treatment.  My role at the BCMM is to collaborate in the statistical analysis of a genetic data repository, compiled by the National Institute of Mental Health, including family members with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. email: Kimberly Walters

Alexis Phillips-Simmons - Administrative Assistant

Sang-Cheol Seok - Research Scientist

I received my BS and MS degrees in Mathematics at the Pusan National University, Pusan, Korea and a PhD degree in Computer Science at the University of Iowa. My research interest covers Data mining, High Performance Computing, Numerical Analysis and Combinatorial Scientific Computing. My current research at the center includes optimizing and regularizing multidimensional numerical integration for calculation of the PPL, a class of statistical models for human genetic studies. email: Sang-Cheol Seok


     

Yungui Huang - Director of Computing

I have a BS degree in Computer Science from Nankai University, an MS degree in CS and an MBA degree from the University of Iowa. I’m also a PhD student in the Statistical Genetics Program at the University of Iowa with an expected graduation date of December 2009. I have three years of experience in database development, 10 plus years in software development/design, including parallel computing and implementation of statistical genetics algorithms, among other areas. My position in the BCMM involves developing software, conducting simulation studies and analyzing real data sets. John Burian - Application Developer/Analyst
I have BS and MS degrees in Computer Science from Bowling Green State University. I have fourteen years of experience in programming, particularly network programming, high-throughput data processing and process automation. In addition, I have experience in network and system administration. La Vonne Mangin - Application Developer/Tester

I have an Interdepartmental BA in Computer Science and Biology and a Master of Computer Science degree from the University of Iowa. I have three years experience in database development, data management, software development and programming.  In the BCMM, I build comprehensive test data suites and implement testing strategies to ensure software quality and performance for all new code being written in the center. email: La Vonne Mangin


     

Boonthanome Nouanesengsy - Graduate Research Assistant
I have a BS in Computer Engineering from the University of Arkansas. I am currently a PhD student in the Computer Science and Engineering Department at The Ohio State University. Olaf Stein - Database Administrator

I have a German degree (Dipl. Inf.) in Computer Science from the University of Applied Sciences in Heidelberg, Germany. I have been working (design, management, programming) with different RDBMS for several years in various projects. Other interests of mine include the development of web based software, Linux and Open Source Software in general.  My position in the BCMM is to design, develop and administer center research databases, and implement user friendly interfaces to access research data while ensuring data security and integrity. email: Olaf Stein






 
    

Karen Schmidt - Administration

I am the Lead Administrative Assistant in the Center and have 20 years of administrative experience. I serve as point-of-contact for visitors to the center, new faculty recruits and handle the scheduling and coordination for new hires. I am responsible for monitoring finances for the center and for preparing grant applications along with many other administrative duties. email: Karen Schmidt

  
  


William Valentine-Cooper - Application Developer

I have a bachelor's degree in Computer and Information Science from the Ohio State University, and have worked for over 25 years as a systems architect, developer and project leader in many different industries, especially telecommunications. I have extensive experience with a wide variety of operating systems, languages and tools, and have developed software ranging from high-performance device drivers to accounting systems and cellular network alarm management systems. Angqian Yang - Database Developer

I have a BS degree in Computer Science from Central-South University for Nationalities from China, and a MS Degree in Computer Science from Cleveland State University. I have 3 years work experience as programmer in Wuhan Jiaotong University of Science and Technology in China, and two years work experience as a Programmer Analyst in the Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland OH) before I joined the BCMM as an Application Developer/System Programmer. My interest areas includes database development and administration, software and web development. My job in the BCMM is to design, develop, and administer center research databases as well as to develop various tools to retrieve and update data and research results. email: Angqian Yang
