Nationwide Children's Hospital Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders (CASD) provides community education classes for Autism Aides and siblings of children with Autism.
Brothers and sisters of children with autism have feelings that are difficult to express, even to a friend, sadness that a sibling cannot learn things, anger when their behavior prevents the family from doing things other families do, or the special pride when a sibling with autism learns a basic but important life skill. At SibshopsTM siblings will share these feelings with others who truly understand autism.
Classes are geared for children 7-12 who have a sibling with autism. The program focuses on using fun and games to explore feelings and share information. The Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders will be hosting and running the group.
At SibshopsTM Kids Will:
Meet other siblings in a relaxed, fun atmosphere
Discuss common joys and concerns with other siblings of children with autism
Learn how others handle situations commonly experienced by siblings of children with autism
