Analytical Chemistry/Small Molecule Core

The Analytical Chemistry/Small Molecule Core facility provides analytical chemistry services in support of clinical and basic research within and outside of The Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital.

Liquid and gas chromatography with mass spectroscopy capabilities are available for monitoring and quantifying compounds of interest, with a particular focus on small molecules. Services will also be provided for the method development and validation of new assays.

The core is not currently equipped to perform proteomic analyses.




Available Instrumentation

  • Liquid Chromatography- Mass Spec/Mass Spec (LC-MS/MS) currently equipped for small molecule analyses such as drugs, drug metabolites, and lipids
  • Gas Chromatography- Mass Spec (GC-MS) equipped to analyze small molecules not amenable to liquid chromatography separation
  • Gas Chromatography (GC) equipped with a flame ionization detector, currently used for fatty acid analysis or abundant sterols
  • High Pressure Liquid Chromatography one independent unit available with UV/VIS, diode array, and fluorescence detection
  • Multiplex analysis for protein molecules (ELISA based format) using an MSD platform, samples can be analyzed for chemokines, cytokines, and other signaling molecules
