Janet was flown to Nationwide Children’s Hospital and immediately taken to the Emergency Department (ED). Janet had a broken neck and crushed spinal cord, as well as a broken jaw and clavicle. Janet’s stay at Nationwide Children’s was almost evenly split between the PICU and the Rehab/Therapy floors. Her family learned about Janet’s condition and care, included in her therapies. Her mother, Nancy, was very nervous to take care of a quadriplegic at home, but she was assured and eventually felt equipped, thanks to the nurses, therapists and doctors at Nationwide Children’s.
Janet was discharged from Nationwide Children’s on May 30th. Today, Janet is moving freely about her home in her power wheelchair. This summer she is finishing up her 2nd semester classes with tutors , and looking forward to her senior year back at Granville High School in the fall. She has recently turned 17 and was very happy to celebrate her birthday at home.
