About Children's Pharmacy Department

The goals of the Childrens Hospital Department of Pharmacy are to:

  • Optimize medication therapy
  • Prevent adverse effects
  • Continuously improve medication safety for our patients and families

The Department of Pharmacy staff consists of over 100 FTE pharmacists, technicians, and support staff.

The Department of Pharmacy provides the following services:

  • Twenty-four hour pharmacy services
  • Pharmacy response to all medical emergencies and Level I traumas
  • Innovative ambulatory pharmacy services: Outpatient pharmacy, Primary Care and Specialty
  • Clinics
  • Unit-dose distribution
  • Centralized compounded sterile preparations program
  • Investigational drug studies
  • Five satellite pharmacies: Surgery, ICU, Emergency Department, Inpatient Hematology/Oncology, and Outpatient Hematology/Oncology
  • Decentralized pharmacist services for the Emergency Department

Pediatric clinical pharmacists round daily with specialized interdisciplinary teams in the following areas:

  • Unit Bone Marrow Transplant
  • Cardiology
  • Hematology/Oncology
  • Infectious Disease
  • Neonatology/Neonatal Intensive Care
  • Nutrition Support
  • Pediatric Intensive Care
  • Pulmonary Medicine

The Department of Pharmacy also utilizes current technology in order to provide safer and a more accurate delivery system
