The Behavioral Health Services comprehensive approach to care is provided by a multidisciplinary team – which may include a psychiatrist, developmental-behavioral pediatrician, nurse practitioner, psychologist, clinical social worker, and clinical counselor – to determine the best treatment options for each child and adolescent.
The Pediatric Psychology Program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital offers specialized assessment and intervention services that focus on the relationship between children’s cognitive, social and emotional functioning and their physical well being. Children and adolescents and their families with medical conditions are served, both as inpatients and outpatients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Psychology services available include:
- Assessment and intervention for adjustment factors related to chronic or acute medical conditions or disabilities, such as:
- Behavioral adherence (e.g. compliance with medical regiment)
- Emotional reactions (e.g. depression, anxiety related to medical conditions)
- Social functioning (e.g. difficulties with interpersonal relationships)
- Child and family adjustment and dealing with a medical diagnosis(i.e. cancer, transplant)
- Promotion of positive health behaviors (e.g. good sleep habits, regular school attendance following chronic illness diagnosis)
- Psychological assessment
- Pain management
