Osteochondritis Dissecans, or OCD, is a condition in which a fragment of cartilage and the underlying bone separates from the inside surface of a joint. OCD’s although found in other joints, are most common in the knee and can come from a traumatic force or develop over time. Children and adolescents suffering from an OCD may have complaints of generalized pain and/or swelling in the joint. As the condition progresses the pain can become constant with any weight bearing activity, and may produce episodes of locking and/or giving way of the affected joint.
