Osteochrondritis Dissecans
Osteochondritis Dissecans, or OCD, is a condition in which a fragment of cartilage and the underlying bone separates from the inside surface of a joint.  OCD’s although found in other joints, are most common in the knee and can come from a traumatic force or develop over time.  Children and adolescents suffering from an OCD may have complaints of generalized pain and/or swelling in the joint.  As the condition progresses the pain can become constant with any weight bearing activity, and may produce episodes of locking and/or giving way of the affected joint.  If you suspect you may be suffering from Osteochondritis Dissecans discontinue activity and consult your primary care provider or for more specialized care please contact Children’s Sports Medicine.
