Osgood-Schlatters Disease
Osgood-Schlatters Disease is one of the most common causes of knee pain in active children.  This condition is caused by increased tension on the attachment of the patellar tendon at the top of the shin.  Those suffering from Osgood-Schlatter Disease typically experience knee pain during activity, especially running, jumping, squatting, and going up and/or down stairs.  Rest, icing the painful area for 20 minutes, and light stretching of quadriceps and hamstrings (muscles on the front and back of the thigh)assist with the recovery from Osgood-Schlatter Disease.  If you are uncertain about the nature of your condition or your condition does not improve with conservative treatment please contact your primary care provider or for more specialized care contact Children’s Sports Medicine.
