A Healthy You and 22q Conference Speakers

Keynote Speaker:

Tony J. Simon, PhD
Tony J. Simon, PhD is a pediatric cognitive neuroscientist at the University of California, Davis MIND (Medical Investigations of Neurodevelopmental Disorders) Institute and Professor in Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. His research focuses on the neural, cognitive and emotional factors that produce learning difficulties, intellectual and developmental disability and psychopathology in genetic disorders, especially chromosome 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, also known as DiGeorge and VeloCardioFacial syndrome. Dr. Simon investigates how changes in specific neurocognitive processing systems, such as those involved in attentional and cognitive control and spatial/temporal processing can generate a range of cognitive, behavioral and psychiatric impairments. He is increasingly interested in how these interact with fear, stress and anxiety to influence which children are “copers”, who make good functional progress, versus “strugglers”, who need specific, evidence-based interventions to improve their coping and functional skills. His goal is to develop remedial intervention programs that will minimize such disability.
